7 Natural Bedtime Remedies

1. Suppressing screen time before bed
The light emitted from electronic screens has been known to interfere with sleep patterns. So, I eliminate all electronic devices at least one hour before bedtime. To avoid a possible meltdown, I set an alarm on a visual timer so my little one is aware of how much time she has left.

2. A warm bath before bedtime
A warm bath before bedtime can help ease tension and create a relaxing atmosphere for your little one. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil, some bubbles, toys, and epson salt can add a calming effect to bath time.

3. Reading a bedtime story
Reading a story to your little one can create a relaxing and calming atmosphere. Not only does it provide an opportunity to bond with your little one, but it can also help to stimulate their imagination. Here are a few books I have enjoyed with my daughter.

The Emotions Book: A Little Story About Big Emotions

4. Calming chamomile tea
Chamomile tea contains compounds that promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. Drinking chamomile tea before bed can help your child feel calm and relaxed, making it easier for them to fall asleep. However, consult with your child’s pediatrician before using.

5. Aromatherapy with essential oils
Essential oils like lavender, chamomile, and ylang-ylang have calming effects. Adding a few drops to a diffuser or using therapeutic body cremes can help to create a soothing and calming atmosphere.

6. Soft noise or calming music
Soft noise or calming music can aid in relaxation and help to create a peaceful atmosphere. It can also help to drown out outside noise that may interrupt sleep. I sometimes use Alexa to play soft bedtime sounds. However, my daughter loves her galaxy night light.

7. Use a weighted blanket
Weighted blankets can provide a sense of comfort and security for your child. The weight of the blanket can help your child feel grounded and relaxed. Make sure you choose a blanket that is appropriate for your child’s weight and size.

Bedtime doesn’t have to be a struggle for both parents or child. By incorporating these 7 natural remedies into your child’s bedtime routine, you can help to create a soothing and calming atmosphere, making the transition to sleep an easier and peaceful process.
