How To Take Care of Your Body During Your Menstrual Cycle

Hey babe!

I want to chit-chat about the time period in our lives that no woman wants to talk about.

Our menstrual cycle!

This is a time period where our bodies go through changes and we just want to curl up in our beds, and be left alone.

Girl, I feel you!

I just wanted to swing by to remind you to take care of yourself during this period.

In this post, I’ll be sharing some tips on how to take care of your body during your menstrual cycle, what your body loses during this time, and what you can do to ensure you feel your best. So grab a warm cup of tea and let’s dive in!

Before I get started, I just want to let it be known that this article is not intended as medical advice, medical treatment or diagnoses. It is simply for educational purposes and product recommendations.

Replenishing Your Body During Your Menstrual Cycle

During your monthly cycle, your body loses important nutrients like iron and magnesium. Because of this, you may feel a little more fatigued than usual. I encourage you to replenish these nutrients, especially if you are already anemic.

Iron is essential for the production of red blood cells and helps you to maintain your energy levels. You can replenish the iron in your body by incorporating foods like leafy green vegetables, beans, and lean meats. Magnesium is a mineral that helps to regulate muscle and nerve function, as well as keeping your bones strong. You can replenish the magnesium in your body by eating foods like nuts, seeds, avocado, and dark chocolate. As your cycle nears, I encourage you to include these foods into your diet to maintain adequate nutrient levels or by the very least, consider taking iron and magnesium supplements to support your body during this period.

Another important element to consider is water. Drinking plenty of water during your menstrual cycle can help ease bloating and cramping, as well as flush out toxins from your body and keep you hydrated. If water is not your thing, try making herbal teas like chamomile or ginger tea. Not only will this help to soothe your cramps and bloating, but you’ll get you water intake. I recommend you avoiding caffeinated and sugary drinks, as they can exacerbate symptoms like headaches and mood swings.

Self-Care During Your Menstrual Cycle

If you don’t self-care at any other time in your life, during your menstrual cycle is probably the time to do it. Self-care is a good practice during your monthly cycle to ensure you feel good both physically and mentally. Taking warm baths with epsom salts and using warm compress can help to relax tense muscles and reduce cramps.

And because you may experience more physical discomfort and fatigue than usual, don’t push yourself too hard, but allow your body to rest when needed. Your body is going through painful hormonal changes which can disrupt sleep patterns, making it harder for you to get the rest you need. This can lead to fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating throughout the day. To combat this, I encourage you to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night. (I mean it, put the phone down!)

You can also try incorporating relaxation techniques such as, deep breathing or meditation before bed to help calm your mind and promote better sleep. I personally enjoy using shower steamers at night, as they add an extra layer of zen and calmness before bedtime.

I know exercising may be the last thing on your mind when you’re on your menstrual cycle, but exercising can be beneficial for managing hormonal changes. Exercise releases endorphins which can improve mood and energy levels while also reducing cramping and bloating. If pumping iron is not your thing, you can do low-impact exercises like yoga or walking.

In addition to self-care practices, using products that cater to your needs can make a big difference in how you feel during your cycle. Consider investing in organic cotton pads or menstrual cups. (If thats what you’re into) Try putting on comfy socks or fuzzy house slippers. And baby, you can never go wrong with a nice lounge set or pajamas.

And because we are God’s favorites and just go through the absolute most during our time of the month, your body may crave all kinds of sugar and nonsense due to your hormones throwing up gang signs. It’s okay to give into these cravings a little. (keyword being little) If not, you’re gonna regret it when you see that big ‘ole pimple staring back at you in the morning. (you’re beautiful by the way!) and if Mr. Pimple just so happen to show his face, there is pimple patches for that.

A Simple Morning Routine For Your Cycle Days

A morning routine tailored for your cycle days can set the tone for your day ahead. By understanding your menstrual cycle, you can create a morning routine that supports and caters to your body’s needs.

  1. Start by drinking a glass of warm lemon water or ginger tea to kickstart digestion and boost hydration.
  2. Follow up with a nourishing breakfast that includes whole grains, fruits, and protein.
  3. Take your vitamins as well as magnesium and iron supplements to help replenish your body.
  4. Incorporate light stretching or meditation to center yourself before tackling the day’s tasks.
  5. Have a slow day by shortening your to-do list or go back to bed to catch up on rest your body needs.

Taking care of your body is important, but even more so during your monthly cycle. By replenishing lost nutrients, staying hydrated, practicing self-care routines, and using products designed for menstrual needs, we can navigate this time with ease and comfort. Remember that every woman’s experience is unique, so listen to your body’s cues and adjust accordingly. Here’s to feeling empowered and taking charge of our health. PERIOD! (hair flip)
